Religious Education

“Grow in the Lord. Walk in His light. Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always.”

Psalm 105:4

Our parish program for Religious Education is open to all parishioners. Classes meet up in our St. Catherine of Siena School. Classes begin in the 1st Grade and continue through the 8th Grade. Our grades 1 through 4 meet on Sunday mornings from 10:10am until 11:30am. Grades 5 through 8 meet on Wednesdays; there are two time frames available – 4 to 5:20pm; 7 to 8:20pm.
Two years of Religious Education are required for Sacramental preparation. We prepare our 2nd graders for their First Reconciliation in the Fall semester of Grade 2 and preparation for First Holy Communion takes place during the winter (Lent) of that 2nd Grade year. We prepare our students for Confirmation during their 8th grade year and the celebrations of Confirmation take place during the Fall semester of 9th grade. All three of these Sacraments begin with parent meetings to introduce families to the faith journey that is a foundational part of our participation in our Roman Catholic Church. These preparations provide pertinent information for families for each specific Sacrament.
We also strongly encourage our First grade parents to participate in “Planting Seeds for the Journey”. This is a 3 part experience for 1st graders and their parents as we begin their formal faith formation. The three sessions take place during CCD time on Sunday mornings. The first session is typically the first day of class, the second one is held in Advent and the last takes place during Lent. We provide light refreshments, a special event for parents, a craft for children with parents and a closing prayer.
