Sewing Group
Provides dressings for the residents of Rosary Hill Home for Incurable Cancer, Hawthorne, New York. Group members cut, shape and sew wadding and sheets together to make bed pads. The group gathers on the first and third Friday of each month, from September through May, 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM in the Lower Rectory. They bring their own brown bag lunches. All are welcome. Knights of Columbus The Knights of Columbus, Father James J. Kelly Council #3632 (Cedar Grove-Verona), is a Catholic men's fraternal benefit society that was formed to provide financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works. Founded in New Haven, Connecticut the Knights have grown to more than 1.7 million members in 12,000 Councils throughout the Americas. Contact Fr. Robert Gelinas, Chaplain, for more information. Return to List Ministry to Sick and Homebound - CARES Provides Eucharistic Ministers to bring Holy Communion to the sick and homebound, and maintains our "CARES" program which schedules volunteers year-round for services such as rides to the doctor, food shopping, and social contacts by phone call or home visit. On
average, Eucharistic Ministers serve twice a month. The number of
visits
varies dependent upon need. "CARES" volunteers are scheduled according
to their available time. Meetings are held twice a year. Formation is
provided
for those interested in serving as a Eucharistic Minister. All adults
are
encouraged to assist in this ministry.
Provides assistance to those in need within our community and to those in our "extended family" through four major parish programs; our Christmas Giving Tree, Meals for St. Patrick's Pro-Cathedral in Newark, Monthly Food Collection, and Mothers Helping the Hungry. Christmas Giving Tree is an opportunity for parishioners to share what we have with those less fortunate by donating specifically requested Christmas gifts to be dispersed to various charities.
The major activity is our telephone tree, which responds to legislative alerts at the state and federal level. Phone calls are made to legislators on pro-life issues; e.g., the partial birth abortion ban, and parental notification of abortion on minors. Due, in part to our efforts, both became laws in New Jersey. The committee shares political awareness of life as a "seamless garment" from before birth to after death. Meetings are held on an as-needed basis with most contacts occurring via telephone. All parishioners are invited to participate in the ministry.
Oversees the spirituality of stewardship as implemented by the Archdiocesan Stewardship Initiative: "Time, Talent, Treasure. Putting God First?" Stewardship is a way of life that touches all aspects of our discipleship. In gratitude for the blessings of God, we seek to share our gifts with others. |
