WORD CLUSTER
These ministries support the Propagation of our Faith.
Baptism Preparation
Expectant or new parents are prepared for their baby's Baptism through: lay ministers' Parent Witness, an SCS Parish Priest's talk, our Pastoral Associate Carol Orlando's overview on raising the newly born in the Catholic faith, and a video presentation. Gatherings are held four times a year.
Lay Ministers attend one or more of these Preparation Meetings, give insight into what Baptism has meant to them, assist with refreshments and lead prayer.
Baptismal Garment Making
Every child baptized at St. Catherine's is garbed in a hand-made baptismal bib, lovingly and prayerfully crafted by parishioners in this Ministry.
Parishioners help is needed!
All work is done in your own home, at your own pace. Some Ministers construct or sew the garment, others embroider a simple design. All materials are provided and dropped off at your home. Completed items can be brought to the Rectory or picked up at your home. A 30-minute organizational meeting is held once or twice a year.
Jesus Story Time
Parish Pre-Schoolers learn the Good News of Jesus through age-appropriate, Gospel-based stories and activities in this 'Seeds'-based Religious Education Program. Jesus Story Time meets on Sunday Mornings, for about twenty weeks, Fall to Easter, 8:45-10:10 A (during Family Mass), in our School.
Parishioners are needed to serve on a Team...and can participate on a rotation basis. They greet the children, help with name tags, reward attendance, read Bible stories and teach the Gospel through arts and crafts activities. There is music, exercise, refreshments and clean up.
Marriage Preparation
Engaged couples who plan to be married at St. Catherine's benefit from this Ministry which pairs them with a married couple from the Parish to discuss a variety of topics.
Meetings take place in the Team (married) Couple's home on a mutually convenient schedule.
The Team Couple is provided materials from which to work and hand-outs for the engaged couple pertinent to living as Catholics in Sacramental Marriage. The couples form a bond and often keep in contact throughout the wedding process and beyond.
Married couples are needed to serve 1-3 times a year.
Religious Education (CCD)
Serving over 500 parishioners, grades 1-8, this Program offers classes on Sunday mornings, following the 9:15 A Family Mass and Wednesday afternoons/evenings. Our goal is to reinforce and enhance what parents teach their children about God, our Church and our Call to be Disciples of Jesus. Sacramental Preparation is an integral part of the Program. Second-graders are prepared to receive First Reconciliation and Eucharist; eighth-graders are prepared for Confirmation which takes place in the Fall of their freshman year in High School. A minimum of two years of Religious Education are required to participate in Sacremental Preparation. Class time totals 35 hours per student, mid-September through April.
Parishioners are needed to serve as Catechists. Training is offered periodically throughout the year.
RCIA-Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.
Adults and children of catechetical age are brought to the faith through RCIA and the Initiation Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
Parishioners are needed to serve as: an Inquiry Team Member, meeting twice monthly with future candidates and participating in discussions about the Catholic faith; a Sponsor, who journeys with the candidate throughout the process; a Catechist, who leads a session and shares faith with the candidates approximately once every two months.
